How DXB’s terminals are laid out

Dubai International has three terminals. Terminal 3 is the Emirates home base, with Concourses A, B and C; B and C are close together while Concourse A (the A380 concourse) is reached via an underground automated train, and Emirates advises allowing about 30 minutes between concourses. Terminal 1 handles most other international airlines through Concourse D. Terminal 2 sits on the opposite, northern side of the airfield and is used by flydubai and some regional carriers. Terminals 1 and 2 have no walkable or train connection to Terminal 3 — but that is not the same as “no transfer”: eligible through-ticket passengers are moved between terminals by an airport connection bus.

Connections within Terminal 3 and to Terminal 1

If both flights are in Terminal 3, the transfer behaves like a normal hub: you move between Concourses A, B and C by walking or the automated train. Emirates advises allowing approximately 30 minutes to travel between concourses; a short hop between nearby B and C gates can be quicker, but a full gate-to-gate move (especially involving Concourse A) can take the whole 30 minutes or more. For a move between Terminal 3 and Terminal 1’s Concourse D, eligible through-ticket passengers are directed to a connection shuttle bus — the exact route depends on your arrival concourse, airline and boarding-pass status, so follow the “Connections” signs and confirm with your airline or a Dubai Airports ambassador. Transfers involving Terminal 2

Terminal 2 is physically separate from Terminals 1 and 3, with no walkable or train connection. That does not mean there is no protected transfer: eligible through-ticket passengers follow the “Connections” signs to an airport connection bus that runs to the terminal of their next flight (Emirates lists buses to Terminal 1’s D gates and Terminal 2’s F gates; flydubai directs its T2–T3 passengers to the connection buses). Passengers who must collect baggage or check in again may instead need to enter the UAE and transfer landside.

For a flydubai connection between Terminal 2 and Terminal 3, flydubai currently publishes a minimum connection time of 120 minutes. A separate four-hour minimum applies to flydubai’s DXB–DWC (Al Maktoum) airport-change guidance — a different airport, not an ordinary T2–T3 connection. Other airlines and ticket combinations can have different requirements, so confirm the flight-specific minimum with your operating airline.

Dubai Airports directs passengers to transfer desks, wayfinding and their airline for concourse and terminal changes, and the applicable minimum depends on your airlines, whether it’s one ticket or two, the terminals and concourses involved, baggage through-checking, and whether immigration is required. The published figures are airline-specific:

• flydubai, Terminal 2 ↔ Terminal 3: 120 minutes (flydubai’s currently published minimum).
• Emirates connections within Terminal 3: Emirates advises allowing about 30 minutes between concourses; the valid minimum connection time is the one applied to your ticketed itinerary, so confirm it on your booking. A Concourse A gate, a Terminal 1 move or a busy peak bank make a larger buffer safer.
• Any other connection: verify the flight-specific minimum with the operating airline.
